Chilly Dogs offers a variety of family-friendly trips, 7 days a week (closed only on Christmas Day, December 25th) throughout the winter season to meet a variety of needs and desires. Your adventure begins with a "Meet-the-Dogs" session and a thorough orientation, during which our guides will teach you all you need to know to have a fun and safe dog sledding adventure. Then we'll hook-up the teams of dogs, and, together with our guides, you'll head out on the trail for an exciting journey through a land of winter wonder.
For safety reasons, and because it's so much fun, we always run our trips with 2 people per sled; one person drives the sled, while the other rides in the sled enclosure. Adults and teens (age 15 and older) weighing at least 100 pounds will have the opportunity to drive the sled for half the trip and ride in it the other half, with sledmates trading places during a brief stop at the midway point.
Guests are paired on a sled with another member of their own party, or with one of our professional guides, but never with a member of a different party. Our guides determine the sled arrangements in advance based on several factors, including weight, age, and ability of participants, among other things. The stated running time of each trip is subject to slight variation, depending on weather and trail conditions and the size of the group. Prices quoted are all-inclusive, with the exception of tips and gratuities for the guides, which, although optional, are very encouraging and much appreciated.
Upon your arrival, we'll introduce you to our staff—both two- and four-legged! You will learn all about the Alaskan Husky breed, as well as how we care for and train our dogs. Next, you will receive a thorough orientation, with instruction on how to handle and drive a team of dogs. We inform you of what you can expect along the way, and explain pertinent details based on specific weather and trail conditions at the time. Then it's time to head out on the trail with your guide(s). No previous experience is necessary.
When you return from your trip, you'll come inside to relax in our cozy lodge room and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate and goodies in the welcome warmth from the wood-burning fireplace. You may wish to shop our retail area, where you'll find our Chilly Dogs apparel and souvenirs. We were excited to hear recent stories of our guests spotting other folks wearing Chilly Dogs t-shirts and hats, while on vacation in far-flung places of the globe. It would appear that the whole world is going to the dogs...Chilly Dogs!
Warm up after your trip with refreshments by the fire.
Mushing a team of sled dogs is fun, and our guests are thrilled to have this opportunity to do it, nevertheless, it does require that participants be in fairly good physical condition, able to jog beside the sled-always holding on to the handlebar-while ascending a few hills along the trail. We can accommodate people with a wide range of physical abilities. Please call us to chat about any questions or concerns you may have.
