About Our Dog Sled Trips
Chilly Dogs Sled Dog Trips offers a variety of dog sledding adventures to suit your desires. While we offer full-day trips, we specialize in trips that are half of a day (our Backcountry Loop trip); about 2.5 hours (the Snowy Owl Run—our most popular); and shorter (our introductory Fun Ride). You may learn how to drive the team, riding on the runners, or you may prefer to sit back in the comfortable, enclosed sled and enjoy the breathtaking scenery. On most of our trips, you’ll be able to do both!
Upon your arrival, we'll introduce you to our two- and four-legged staff. You will learn all about the Alaskan Husky breed, as well as how we care for and train our dogs. Next, you will receive a thorough orientation and instruction on how to handle and drive a team of dogs, and what to expect along the way. Then prepare to head out on the trail with your guide. No previous experience is necessary.
For safety reasons, we run with 2 people per sled—sometimes 3, if small children are participating—with one person driving the sled, while the other is riding in the sled enclosure. Your guides will pause along the trail to allow everyone to switch positions. The stated running time of your trip is dependent upon trail conditions, the size of your group, and the weight in the sleds. Prices are all-inclusive, with the exception of tips for guides, which are optional, but well appreciated.
You’ve heard it said that "a picture is worth a thousand words," so remember to bring your camera to capture the unfolding story, the amazing sled dogs, and the spectacular scenery. You will find there are plenty of opportunities for the person riding in the sled to take photographs along the trail, "freezing" forever your memories of the experience!
